Traverse City – Grand Traverse County Commissioner and Candidate for Michigan State Representative Jason Gillman issued the following statement following the failed recall attempt of the Governor and Lt. Governor of our neighboring state Wisconsin.

“After going all-in in the campaign to defeat Scott Walker, big labor has revealed its bluff.  The ‘tell’ was an earlier rebuff by the President Obama, who refused to fully associate himself with the failure in Wisconsin.  Hopefully, Rick Snyder and our legislature will remember that Michigan overwhelmingly supports significant labor reforms, and that the hot air of union interests, is merely that.

Surveys have revealed that 82% of Republicans, 77% of the general population, and even a third of union workers want Right-To-Work legislation enacted.  Labor reforms in the states surrounding Michigan have already shown results.  Indiana, with a new influx of private capital, and Wisconsin, that found savings sufficient to eliminate a $3B deficit.”

“There is no better time to enact Right-To-Work in Michigan than now.  A failure to do so is a failure to recognize when Michigan has the upper hand.” Gillman said.
